The Research and Education Working Group

To achieve its education related goals, the Road Ahead has established a Research and Education Working Group.

The current goals of the Research and Education Working Group include:

  • Establish a national Research/Education Working Group to support professional and amateur educators and researchers in their efforts to inspire and renew public understanding of Route 66.
  • Assist educational institutions at all levels in presenting Route 66 research to students, travelers, tourists, and the general public.
  • Support the research and preparation of comprehensive and accurate Route 66 information and its distribution in multiple forms, including: netcasting, broadcasting, print, social media, and curriculum.
  • Establish a Route 66 National Research Center.

Progress being made by the Research and Education Working Group on these goals is reported in the Annual and Quarterly Reports found in the Resources section of this website.

New! – The Route 66 Women Project

The Route 66 Women project, based on the documentary film series Route 66: The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road, aims to tell the diverse stories of women who lived along the historic highway. On the project website, you can watch interviews and videos from the documentary, explore an interactive map of Route 66, and access free lesson plans for grades 6-12. These comprehensive lesson plans include graphic organizers, reading materials, primary sources, presentations, and assessments with rubrics. Check them out at www.Route66Women.com.
